July was a messy month. I worked a whopping total of 13 days in the entire month, and they weren’t consecutive. I’ve been playing catch-up like crazy. Still, I am so glad that I spent July in the way that I did, mostly investing in the lives of teenagers. Call me zany, but it’s kind of my calling.
At the same time, God has been doing tremendous things in my life this month through my quiet times. I have been so much closer to Him and consequently I have this tangible joy. Something has changed in my spirit. I’ve got more to share about this journey, but I’m not ready to do so on such a public scale at this point.
I was reading today in the book I told you about, and I’m loving Mark Batterson. Allow me to quote Mark quoting Dorothy Sayers,
The people who hanged Christ never, to do them justice, accused Him of being a bore – on the contrary; they thought Him too dynamic to be safe. It has been left for later generations to muffle up that shattering personality and surround Him with an atmosphere of tedium. We have very efficiently pared the claws of the Lion of Judah, certified Him “meek and mild,” and recommended Him as a fitting household pet for pale curates and pious old ladies.
This post is a pretty random mish-mash of ideas from a guy who’s just struggling to stay above water right now. But, I’ve got to ask you as I search deep within, which Jesus are you following? I mean is the God we follow this lowly nerd or is He the fierce Lion of Judah?
This month, He’s proved to me that He’s not a pushover – He is POWERFUL. I can even picture Aslan with me as I chase the lions in my life, “He’s not tame, but he is good.” I mean this God we serve, who created the world by simply speaking, and overwhelmed us with grace undeserved, loves us more than we can imagine. So, are you relying on His strength or your own? Take it from me, He is stronger than you are.
